FUNCTION
Newer browser releases have disabled MD5, the encryption required to access the SNMPWEBCARD via the browser-based web
interface. In addition, certain customers have experienced difficulty using Oracle's Java web browser plug-in or
have disabled Java applets within their Web Browsers for security reasons. The solution to both of these issues
is to manually install this PAL-Console-Launcher for control and configuration of SNMPWEBCARD. This installer
provides the manual installation of the SNMPWEBCARD Java Console and a compatible copy of the Java Runtime Engine
for local use by this application.

JAVA BROWSER-APPLET SECURITY CONCERNS
In early 2013, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) issued an advisory #TA13-010A concerning security
issues with the use of Oracle's Java 7, particularly with applets launched via web browsers. As a result of the
vulnerabilities discussed in the advisory, many end-users have opted to disable Oracle's Java applet launcher in their
web browser. Since the SNMPWEBCARD provides its graphical user interface as a Java applet to be downloaded into the
customer's browser, another means of obtaining and launching the console is required in this case.

COMPATIBILITY
To ensure proper operation, do not install more than one PowerAlert software edition on a single computer.
Specifically, this version of the Console Launcher is NOT compatible with PowerAlert Network Management System
(PANMS).

INSTALLING SNMPWEBCARD CONSOLE - WINDOWS USERS
